Olive and well: Evoolution of olive oils and vinegars
As mentioned in one of my previous entries, the Evoolution store in Canmore (as well as Market Mall in Calgary) has some flavours of olive oil and vinegars to offer. Here are my recommendations:
· Blood orange-infused olive oil: I use it for pretty much anything. It is fabulous in salads as part of your regular vinaigrette, just mixed with salt, pepper, and any acidic liquid you like (lemon, lime, balsamic or wine vinegar). But I have also added it to soups, meats and fish, and it added a new dimension. People typically say that they taste something unique and very good but cannot tell what it is because it blends well.
· Maple dark balsamic vinegar: this is a winner. It is phenomenal on salmon. But it works well on salads as well.
· Red chilli olive oil: it is back! They were not making it for almost 2 years, but it is back on the shelves, and I am thrilled. It is great on meats, in sauces and soups, I love to fry eggs in it. It is spicy but also flavourful.
· Black cherry dark balsamic vinegar: is awesome on vanilla ice cream.
· Cranberry pear, or grapefruit white vinegar is excellent on salads because it does not darken the colours of your salad.
· Those same fruity vinegars are also an ingredient in fabulous summer thirst quenchers. Just add a tablespoon of it to sparkling water.
I am writing this at the time when many people safe-isolate due to the coronavirus. Luckily, you can order this and many other varieties of olive oils ad vinegars online on evolution.ca. The store has many interesting recipes, and I encourage you to try and find your own favourites.
