And the winner is...

Today we binged on ice cream in the beautiful city of Cracow, Poland. That is quite a statement from a lactose-intolerant couple. What can I say, we did it in the name of research. J

We walked from one Polish ice-cream vendor to another in search of unique flavours, tasting a nice variety of ice creams with the plan to choose the best one. The finalists in today’s competition were: chocolate/black pepper/raspberry, vegan vanilla (made with olive oil), cream with sea buckthorn, rose, chilli/chocolate/sour cherry, and dried fruits. The chilli and black pepper flavours were particularly interesting.as explained by one of the vendors and makers, the spiciness is not apparent right away, as the low temperature prevents the release of the spice. Only at the end, once the ice cream has melted in your mouth, do you get the full dimension of the flavour. And that’s exactly what happened. There was no burning from too much spice, but rather a beautifully balanced flavour at the end. The winners today were… drum roll please…: for Robert – rose (for the incredible creaminess); for me – chocolate chilli (for the balanced bouquet of flavours).

If you wonder what other interesting flavours of ice cream we came across, here are some: fig, mascarpone/red currant, plum, wild strawberry ricotta, raspberry port, salted cashew, sour cherry, halva with nuts, merengue with blueberries, fudge with merengue, caramelized sunflower seeds, violet, black coconut, oats with raspberries, basil, gooseberry, apple.
