Butter in your coffee?
In the town of La Guácima Abajo in Costa Rica, in a cute and stylish café “Aura” reigns a very knowledgeable barista Mike who has a true passion for coffee. It shows in his chats and, most importantly, in his beverages. My readers already know that I am a coffee gourmet, and Mike’s espresso was one of the best I’ve had. The beans from the Naranjo area, perfectly ground, were weighed; for my espresso 17 grams were needed; no more, no less. The result was divine and perfectly balanced.
Needless to say, I came back for more. This time, I was coming for a special treat, an espresso with a new dimension. When we chatted during my first visit, Mike recommended trying a special espresso with butter (yes, butter!) and a touch of fresh cardamom. And it was worth the trip! The butter (warmed up and whipped; clarified butter is best) added smoothness and creaminess, and cardamom took the beverage to a different level. Everything came together into an exquisite, homogenous deliciousness. I will be making this at home for sure! ¡Muchas gracias, Mike! I will be back for more!
